tens to do when analysing art is link it to link certain
pieces/collections to certain songs or albums - to me, communication
is art. Just like music. And paintings. Or any other visual from of
art. Even languages, to me, are art.
So here's a painting I analysed until around 2:30am yesterday - I
never originally meant for it to be such a long analysis but I got
further and further engulfed by it. It was particularly interesting
because I never usually find much to say about paintings of this style
- now I think I'm gonna be looking further into it.
THE CHALLENGE:
Look at the painting. Think about it for a minute or two.
Think of a song that you believe matches it.
Why have you chosen that song?
"Woman VI" - Willem De kooning (1953)
http://edu.warhol.org/images/DeKooning-W…
De Kooning's work was an abstract expressionist, clearly shown by his
collection of work, titled "Woman", from which this painting comes
from.
The song I picked:
The Cure - Pornography
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k_pTSrOKN…
a) because interestingly enough, I've been engulfed in that album
recently
b) both the lyrics and nature of the song fit perfectly. To me this
painting spells out a the downfall of a woman in society - perhaps
from violence, drugs, prostitution, debauchery. I concluded that I
think she's pregnant etc (but I won't bore you with the details of my
analysis)
Because there is violence in both the lyrics and sound, just like the
violence of the brushstrokes. A portrayal of darkness and confusion.
BQ: What did you think of this question?
Cheers guys
